The Rainforest Alliance has just launched its new Regenerative Agriculture Standard, accompanied by a brand-new seal that joins the traditional frog icon. This historic milestone is the result of years of research, field testing, and collaboration with farmers and companies committed to a more sustainable future for agriculture.
In Brazil, Bourbon Specialty Coffees invested in and collaborated with Agrogenius on a pilot project alongside the Rainforest Alliance, covering 3,000 hectares. The project implemented regenerative practices such as no-till farming, cover crops, ecological management, and the use of biological inputs. As a result, we achieved up to a 70% reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers and reached a Fertibio Quality Index (IQS Fertibio) of 0.75 — an Embrapa indicator that evaluates soil quality on a scale from 0 to 1.
Bourbon believes that regenerative agriculture is a vital path to uniting quality, sustainability, and innovation. It is therefore a great satisfaction to see this seal launched, further strengthening the coffee sector’s commitment to practices that regenerate the soil and safeguard the future of production.
